My name is Ashley Radka and I am so happy to be joining the teaching staff here at Ascent Academy - West Valley. I come from a background in Early Childhood Education where I have spent the last 6 years teaching and managing in a preschool setting. I knew I wanted to work as a teacher ever since I was young. Although I most recently worked as an administrator, my heart has brought me back to what I love the most - being in a classroom. This will be my first year teaching in an elementary school setting, although I have experience with a private Kindergarten program.
I grew up in Holladay, Utah and then relocated to West Valley City at the beginning of High School. I graduated from the University of Utah (Go Utes!) in 2013 with a Bachelors degree in Human Development and Family Studies along with a minor in Community and Consumer Studies. While I begin this adventure here at Ascent, I will also begin my journey in the ARL program through the Utah Board of Education to obtain my teaching license here in Utah.
I am currently a resident of West Valley City where I live with my wife Amber and our newborn son Owen who was just born February 19th of this year. We share our home with our other 4 furry children, 2 lab mixes and 2 beagles (and I guess I can't forget the fish). Sometimes I think it is really their house and they just let us live in it. I love to spend my free time near the water. The pool or the ocean, I will take it all.
Kindergarten is the first real school experience children have and I am so happy that I get to take that first leap with them. I hope to create lifelong learners in my classroom and instill a sense of excitement, confidence, and curiosity in each of my students that helps them be successful in school and in life. Watch out Kindergarten, here we come!
